Job Summary:
The SQL Server Database Senior Developer is responsible for the performance, optimization, and ongoing support of enterprise database systems within the Global Corporate and Investment Banking Technology (GCIB) organization. This role requires deep expertise in SQL Server, database performance tuning, code review and query optimization , along with strong collaboration with application teams and business partners.
This is a hands-on technical role focused on ensuring high-performing, scalable, and reliable SQL database as backend of Applications supporting the GCIB Division of MUFG bankThe successful candidate will have strong experience with SQL Server, execution plan analysis and large-scale data environments , and will help drive performance improvements across critical platforms.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $147k - $205k depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonuses and/or incentive compensation. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the performance tuning and optimization of SQL Server databases
- Serve as a senior technical contributor, resolving code bottlenecks, slow queries, blocking, and deadlocks
- Optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and batch processing jobs
- Analyze and tune execution plans to improve database efficiency and scalability
- Design and implement indexing strategies (clustered, non-clustered, partitioning)
- Monitor database performance using SQL Server tools such as SQL Profiler
- Identify and resolve I/O, memory, and CPU bottlenecks in production environments
- Collaborate with application development teams to ensure efficient database access patterns
- Work closely with business partners to gather, analyze, and document data and performance requirements
- Act as a liaison between database, application teams, and infrastructure groups
- Coordinate testing and implementation of database changes in accordance with bank policies and standards
- Organize and manage technical workstreams, communicating status, risks, and dependencies using tools such as JIRA and Confluence
- Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Quality Engineering teams
- Provide guidance and oversight to junior developers or database team members
- Participate in production support, including availability for critical issue resolution
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server database development and performance tuning
- Deep expertise in:
- Query optimization
- Execution plan analysis
- Index design and tuning
- Stored procedure optimization
- Strong experience troubleshooting database performance issues in production environments
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server internals, including:
- Locking and blocking
- Deadlocks
- TempDB usage
- Indexing strategies
- Experience working with large datasets and high-throughput batch processing systems
- Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., C#, .NET, Java, Python) for integration purposes
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
- Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Background supporting Loan systems, Corporate Investment Banking and Capital Markets platforms
- Experience working in Agile development environments
- Understanding of enterprise architecture, production support, and financial services security controls
- Prior experience mentoring or guiding junior team members
