An opportunity has become available for an experienced
Environmental Compliance Officer (Building/Development ) to join government on a 6-month contract with possibility of extension.
This role focuses on building and development compliance and enforcement, working as an authorised officer to investigate, enforce and resolve regulatory matters across the local government area.
About the Role
As Environmental Compliance Officer, you'll be responsible for the investigation and enforcement of building and development compliance matters, acting under delegated authority to ensure regulatory standards are upheld across the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake research, investigation and enforcement of building and development compliance, along with other regulatory customer action requests, enquiries, complaints, incidents and matters
- Inspect premises for compliance with relevant legislation, criteria and standards, implementing enforcement and compliance action where required
- Act as an authorised officer, exercising delegated authority to issue notices, orders, directions and penalty infringements in line with the instrument of delegation from the General Manager and operational procedures
- Investigate, assess and resolve customer action requests, enquiries and complaints
- Effectively resolve regulatory matters with parties involved in building, compliance and environmental disputes
About You
- Demonstrated experience in a building/development compliance or environmental compliance role, ideally within government
- Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and Local Government Act
- Experience with enforcement procedures and legislation (highly regarded)
- Strong investigative, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to manage sensitive and often contentious matters
- Current driver's licence
