The Bank for International Settlements, BIS is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join us developing high performance, reliable and low latency software for Risk Management in a continuous delivery, DevOps environment.

Purpose of the role:

The mission of the BIS is to support central banks' pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.

In supporting this mission, Risk IT is tasked with the continual development of software for calculating financial risk and ensuring risk limits are observed. This requires high-performance compute, some utilising distributed compute over a scalable RedHat OpenShift container platform, and others NVIDIA CUDA libraries for compute on GPU.

To ensure credit limits are not breached, Risk IT provide APIs interfacing with the banks trade execution platforms, that must provide a low latency response.

We aim to deliver business value to the BIS quickly and frequently, and for this we work using Agile methods, engineering our software for continual delivery. You will support our transition to a zero-downtime, resilient platform and will allow for continually deployment of business value to production.

Principal accountabilities:

Develop and maintain software written in C# for financial risk management.
Work directly with Risk Management (our users), prioritising and defining functional and technical enhancements to the platform.
Assist in moving us to a containerised microservice based architecture which will support future public cloud deployment on Microsoft Azure.
Helping us ‘shift-left’ and further our DevOps culture by enhancing our ability to continually build, test and release software to production during business hours with zero downtime.
Assist in support of the platform, with a ‘reliable engineering’ mindset that prioritises the continual reduction of production exceptions and incidents.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

University degree in a computer science, information systems, science, or mathematical field; OR equivalent industry experience.
Excellent knowledge of C#, Java, C++ or similar Objected Oriented programming language.
Knowledge of common algorithms, data structures, clean-code principles, and design patterns gained through professional experience.
Excellent knowledge working with relational databases and SQL.
Experience building and consuming APIs and an understanding of message-based architectures (Eg. Pub/Sub, MQ, Kafka).
Experience designing, specifying, and implementing reliable IT solutions working closely with business users and customers.
Collaborative; working both within an Agile team but also with stakeholders and across the wider organisation.
