Lead Data Scientist - Oil & Products Trading

Main Purpose:
We are recruiting an expert data scientist to develop and manage decision support and optimisation analytics in our Global Crude and Products Trading businesses. The candidate will work closely with our traders, research analysts and data scientists to develop and run a number of analytical tools to improve decision making on the trading desks. These tools will include applications of computational statistics, machine learning, operations research and classical AI optimisation methods. The objective is to increase the profitability and efficiency of our trading businesses.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities, Key Responsibilities:
- Experience of working in a commercial oil trading environment.
- Development of forecasting models.
- Machine Learning & Deep Learning methods.
- Multivariate statistics.
- Strong Python and SQL coding skills with good understanding of software engineering best practices.
- Quantitive finance (futures and options pricing).
- Data engineering skills such as ETL pipeline development.
- AWS experience and certifications.
- Data visualisation with tools such as Tableau.

Key Responsibilities

Development and maintenance of machine learning and other advanced analytics for Gas and Power trading desks.

Key Relationships and Department Overview:

The role reports to Lead Data Scientist for Energy Trading (based in Geneva) with day to day direction from Gas and Power analysts and traders, and w orks closely with other Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Platform Engineers.

The Data Science and Engineering team researches, develops and provides sophisticated analytics and data services to the trading business and other commercial operations at Trafigura. It is a commercially driven, front office aligned team, that works in close partnership with the trading desks, global research and enterprise technology.
