Interim Patient Safety Improvement Lead




Band 8b/ 8c (£70k-£85k pro rata) | Fixed-Term Contract | Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)| Hybrid working | 12 months



We are currently supporting an NHS organisation to appoint an experienced Interim Patient Safety Improvement Lead to provide programme leadership and patient safety/governance expertise across a high-profile Patient Safety Programme.



This is a critical appointment within a highly sensitive environment. The successful candidate will play a key role in coordinating the programme, supporting delivery of review recommendations, and ensuring robust governance arrangements are in place.




Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior programme leadership and coordination across the Patient Safety Programme


• Establish and maintain programme governance structures, reporting mechanisms, risk management processes, action tracking and assurance frameworks


• Coordinate a broad range of stakeholders across Medical, Nursing, Quality, Legal, Communications, Patient Relations and Operational teams


• Support patient review/lookback activity and associated governance arrangements


• Produce high-quality executive reports, briefings and papers for senior leaders and governance committees


• Ensure effective programme delivery within a complex, sensitive and high-profile environment


• Provide expert advice on patient safety, quality governance and programme management

Essential Experience

• Significant NHS experience in patient safety, quality governance and complex programme delivery


• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with experience working across multiple professional groups and senior leadership teams


• Experience establishing governance frameworks, managing risks and producing executive-level reports and briefings


• Proven ability to work effectively within high-profile and politically sensitive environments.


• Desirable Experience


• Experience supporting patient safety investigations


• Involvement in regulatory reviews, independent investigations or service reviews


• Experience delivering high-profile patient safety improvement programmes within the NHS

Terms:

• Band: 8b/ 8c (circa £70k- £85k)


• Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week


• Location: Hybrid working available, with up to two days per week working remotely


• Reporting To: Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO)


• Contract Type: Fixed-Term
