Job Description
The incumbent will be a part of Financial Accounting and Close Team as a part of Global Finance Operations (GFO) The primary purpose of this role requires to manage financial accounting process for American Express Revenue and expense accounting, deferral accounting, tax accounting, prepaid, amortization, new business acquisitions accounting etc. Ensuring reconciliation and reporting of financials. The incumbent will be required to closely work with business partners across AXP. The role will require strong focus on generating efficiencies, accelerating accounting processes and ensuring overall governance.

The incumbent will be a part of Financial Accounting and Close Team as a part of Global Finance Operations (GFO) The primary purpose of this role requires to manage financial accounting process for American Express Revenue and expense accounting, deferral accounting, tax accounting, prepaid, amortization, new business acquisitions accounting etc. Ensuring reconciliation and reporting of financials. The incumbent will be required to closely work with business partners across AXP. The role will require strong focus on generating efficiencies, accelerating accounting processes and ensuring overall governance.
- Functional:
End to end ownership of key enterprise financial processes like Revenue and expense accounting, deferral accounting, tax accounting, prepaid, amortization etc.
Ensure that all SLAs are timely & accurately met with adequate controls over the processes to ensure integrity of the information.
- Strong understanding of end-to-end AR/AP process flow, accounting & reconciliation.
- Awareness of US GAAP/Local GAAP/IFRS (Accounting knowledge) & understanding of business products.
- Pro-actively develop meaningful data insights/trends to enable finance decision support to our customer's/business partners for more effective planning & forecasting activities.
- Responsible for owning & maintaining financial/data integrity, compliance with internal service level agreements (SLA), guidelines, accounting policies and regulatory requirements as applicable.
- Ability to work across multiple time zones
- The incumbent will be required to have strong accounting & reconciliation knowledge, policy awareness & control mindset with ability to read, interpret various contractual terms/ arrangements and apply to function and activities.
- Strong communication, relationship management & collaboration skills while closely working with various stakeholders across Controllership, Business Finance, Audit and Control groups, etc.
- High proficiency in MS-Office applications, Oracle Applications, Essbase/Smart View etc.
- Strong knowledge on Control & Compliance specifically to SOX & Internal controls.
- Additional:
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve queries with the ability to deal with large set of data.
- Excellent verbal & written communication with good presentation skills.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvements.
- Quick learner, an eye for detail and ability to work during ambiguity.

- Should be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Technical:
- Good understanding of general accounting principles and basic technology, finance/automation knowhow will be an added advantage. Strong knowledge of AI Applications and Tools i.e. ChatGPT, Microsoft Co-Pilot etc.

Responsibilities
- Support Accounting and reporting across AXP Legal Entities for Revenue and expense accounting, deferral accounting, tax accounting, prepaid, amortization etc.
- Maintain and continually enhance strong Control and Compliance environment in compliance with US GAAP, AXP Finance Policy and procedures.
- Support Collaboration with multiple stakeholders viz, Segment and LE Controllership, GFO, LFO, Business and External and Internal Auditors, GREWE, Tax and GSM to deliver accurate and timely accounting and reporting.
- Strong focus on generating effectiveness and efficiencies through automation, data interpretation for analytics and supporting enterprise projects.
- Strong knowledge of AI Tools , ChatGPT, Microsoft Co-Pilot to drive efficiency in the process
Qualifications
Academic
- Graduate / Post-Graduate in Commerce or MBA with 1-3 years of relevant experience in financial accounting domain.
Additional
- The incumbent will be required to have strong accounting (US GAAP) & reconciliation knowledge, policy awareness & control mindset.
- High proficiency in MS-Office applications, Oracle Applications, Essbase and TM1, and other AXP systems.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve queries with the ability to deal with large set of data, perform trend & variance analysis and creating meaningful insights.
- Strong communication, relationship management & collaboration skills while closely working with various stakeholders across Controllership, Business Finance, Audit and Control groups
- Highly motivated , self-starter. Excellent verbal & written communication, presentation skills.
- Ability to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvements.
- Quick learner, agile with an eye for detail.
